Reflecting on pandemic strategies
International Community Health Services (ICHS) hosted a Community Health Worker training on COVID-19, reflecting on the various ways their health services organizations has responded to the pandemic. In the recording below, you’ll hear from 3 ICHS staff members on topics ranging from home visits, to pop-up clinics, to innovative ways for engaging youth populations.
Key takeaways:
- It’s important to respond to community needs in a culturally appropriate way
- To increase vaccine reach, we need a blended approach of mass vaccination sites, smaller community-based pop-ups, and home visiting
- Language support is critical for supporting patients, particularly when they may have concerns about the vaccine
- Offer additional resources in conjunction with vaccination where possible, such as food supplies
- Build partnerships and work in collaboration with community-based partners to help foster community buy-in
- Be open to innovative ways of reaching youth
- Equip youth with information to be health ambassadors among their families and peers.
