CHWs educating patients

Joyce is a Community Health Workers (CHW) at Public Health Seattle & King County. Joyce shares about the critical role CHWs serve as trusted messengers in communities. This is important in supporting patients/clients in making informed decisions about their health after dismantling mis-information and helping patients overcome barriers. To do this, it’s important that CHWs stay updated on the everchanging landscape of COVID-19 information and resources.

Resources for staying up to date on COVID information:

  • King County Website: Search King County – King County
  • King County Case Dashboard
  • Washington Department of Health Website: COVID-19 |
  • CDC Covid Guidelines
  • Listen in on bi-weekly presentation giving the most up to date information on COVID and resources in King County (multiple languages). Email PHPPartnerships@kingcounty.gov for information about the next meeting.

Key takeaways:

  1. Community Health Workers (CHWs) continue to be involved with COVID efforts because they are trusted messengers who support patients/clients make informed decisions about their health.
  2. Since CHWs are trusted messengers, it’s important they stay updated on changing information around COVID variants, vaccines, testing sites locations/closures, resources and coverage for these services.
  3. CHWs can dismantle mis-information and reduce barriers to COVID resources.
